Overview of Virupaksha Temple, Hampi:

Virupaksha Temple in Hampi is one of the oldest functioning temples in India. It has been a place of worship since the 7th century. Dedicated to Lord Shiva (worshipped here as Virupaksha), this temple is not just a religious site but also a symbol of South Indian history and architecture.

The temple became more popular during the rule of the Vijayanagara Empire in the 14th century. It was expanded by the rulers, especially during the reign of King Krishnadevaraya. You can still see some of his inscriptions and contributions in the temple complex. Today, the temple is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hampi and attracts visitors from all over the country.
