Shalimar Garden in Srinagar is a Mughal grandeur and architectural brilliance. Built in 1642 by Emperor Shah Jahan, this Persian-style garden spans across 16 hectares of perfectly landscaped terrain. The garden’s name “Shalimar” comes from Sanskrit, meaning “abode of love,” and truly, every corner of this UNESCO World Heritage site screams why it has got this time. 

This is a marvel of 17th-century engineering that still functions today. A 410 fountains create mesmerizing water displays, fed by a network of channels. The story says that Shah Jahan was so impressed by the garden’s beauty that he hosted a grand 40-day celebration here upon its completion.
