The island gained significant attention in the 1980s when researchers discovered ancient cave paintings and artefacts and declared human settlements dating back thousands of years. Today, it serves as home to the indigenous Jarawa tribe, who have lived here for generations, maintaining their traditional way of life here. The journey to Baratang Island is also an adventure, you travel through dense forests and waterways.

Timings & Entry Fees of Baratang Island:

  • Entry Fee: No entry fee to visit the island. However, you will need to obtain a permit from the local authorities, which can be arranged by a tour operator or at the local government office in Port Blair.
  • Boat Timing: First convoy leaves Port Blair at 6:30 AM
  • Cave Tours: 9 am to 5 pm
